Fall/ Holiday, 2008 Reveille! 27 Mystery Photos! The mystery photos from the spring issue of Reveille generated a fair number of email responses. While the blanket toss did not generate any emails, the hayride photo garnered a loving tribute from Susan Meek Dickison Nuner about her mother: " I very well may be mistaken, but one of the campers in the hayride photo sure looks like my mother, Josephine Emerson Meek & grandmother of current Lanakila counselors, James & Stuart Dickison. She is the one standing at the lower right with what looks like a handful of hay in her hand. If I'm correct that it is indeed she, this picture was taken in 1923 or 1924. Having started the family tradition of Aloha in 1923 with not only her four children, Kaye, Major, Jon, & Susie attending Hive, Aloha, & Lanakila, but every grandchild with the exception of one, Kaye, Trip, Brooke & Rob Wileman; Kemper, Courtney, Kendall, Casey, & Chris Meek; Susie, James, Stuart, & Laura Dickison, her legacy and love of the camps continues and will continue for many years to come. If I'm right, she would feel so honored to know she's alive & well in Aloha publications!" The fireside photo received a num-ber of responses, two of which contained different views of the young women in the photo: Fred Downing writes, " I believe I recognize three or four of the persons in the photo, probably taken in 1937or 38, as Brita Reed and my wife, Judith, came to Aloha in 1937 when Ro and Connie Burbank were head of the Woodchuck Hole. The girl on the right is Judith Chick Downing, who spent over 33 total years as bugler, camper, tennis counselor, assistant director to Mrs. Helen, and long- time Director of Aloha from 1968- 1982, and mother of campers/ counselors, Jani and James Downing. We spent part of our honeymoon on Winships in 1942, 66 years ago! The guitar players are Brita Reed and Ro Burbank, and Connie Burbank may be in back of him. The youngest girl seated below Ro's knees looks like Cyndi McGeoch's mother, Edith Emily Hurd Stetson, who I believe was at camp at that time." Cindy Stetson McGeoch writes, " The camper sitting on the floor in front of the fire in the Hale is my mother, Edith Emily Hurd Stetson." Finally, Marcia Hunkins and Meredith Towner Palmer wrote a number of emails after exhaustive research and said, " We have come up with some identifica-tions of the fireside photo. It was taken in 1951, 1952 or 1954. From left to right: Brita Reed ( seated, with guitar); Joan Myers ( Schattinger) ( back, left); Susie Stecker ( Schaaf) ( seat-ed next to Brita); Ellen ( standing, with guitar); Marian/ Marion Barber; Gay Stanton. This picture was featured in the 1954 brochure, which said ' Fiftieth Season'. An application form is still in the brochure and tuition for the 1954 season ( eight weeks) was only $ 485.00! Health insurance was $ 5.00. In case of polio, the policy would pay $ 1000 in medical expenses, otherwise, $ 100 per illness and $ 250 per accident. Thanks for all the good work in keeping us alumni up to date. We miss our summers at camp." Thanks for all your wonderful feedback! We love to hear from you and hope you'll continue to send feeback, indentifications and memories to: reveille@ alohafoundation. org. Do you know some of the campers in this issue's photos?
